Linux is not a library.  If you ship a product that even links to a GPL
library then that product becomes totally GPL and free.  That is
unacceptable in the commercial world.

Uh? Ruby itself is already GPL (although it has dual-licensing). Linux
is GPL-only and it's doing fine in the commercial world.
