You can download this from http://www.fastcgi.com/#TheDevKit and build it (or else your base system may have this available as a pre-built binary) I believe the ruby fcgi package does include a pure-ruby implementation, which it's supposed to use as a fallback, but I suspect the gem packaging hasn't allowed for this. > In addition I wasn't able yet to install apache2-mod_fastcgi, but I > don't think this is responsible for this behavior? No it's unrelated. I recommend you use apache2-mod_fcgid though anyway; this is a drop-in replacement for mod_fastcgi which is actually being maintained. Brian.
