I have to say that I haven't used inf-ruby. I just run it straight on the command line. (autoload 'ruby-mode "ruby-mode" "Mode for editing ruby source files") (add-to-list 'auto-mode-alist '("\\.rb$" . ruby-mode)) (add-to-list 'interpreter-mode-alist '("ruby" . ruby-mode)) (autoload 'run-ruby "inf-ruby" "Run an inferior Ruby process") (autoload 'inf-ruby-keys "inf-ruby" "Set local key defs for inf-ruby in ruby-mode") ; my-common-pkeys just does common keybindings across several ; programming modes ;(add-hook 'ruby-mode-hook 'my-common-pkeys) In my .emacs there's a line that says (load "~/bin/emacs/add-ruby-mode.el") Make sure you change to location to wherever you put your add-ruby-mode file.
