I do it in ruby-gtk so it can be ported on many platforms which has Gtk
extension for ruby (actually i develop under OpenBSD).
The editor by itself is already running, and the interface is in the
same way as gimp with a floating menubar and one window per file.
Each file window has context menu that i need to complete with basic
tools like replace, etc ...
The big missing feature is like you know syntax highlighting.

But this is a 2 days old project so there will be many more things soon
