From: Nathaniel Talbott Date: 2001-10-31T11:55:28+09:00 Subject: [ruby-talk:23904] Test::Unit = Lapidary + RubyUnit I've been in discussions with Masaki Suketa and Ken McKinlay about the different developer testing frameworks that exist, and what the future should look like as we try to get a framework into the standard distribution. Masaki has (very graciously) agreed to have RubyUnit merge into Lapidary, and then the resulting framework, which will probably be named something simple like Test::Unit, will go into the Ruby proper. The current plan is for me to write an runit compatibility layer for Lapidary, which I've already begun, and then release it along with some fairly deep changes in Lapidary 0.3.0. After everyone says they like it (including whatever revisions are necessary), we'll move it into the distribution. I want to let the community know for a variety of reasons: 1) So you know ;-) 2) So that you'll give us ideas you have for how the merge should take place. 3) So that you will send me your rubyunit test cases you don't want to break under the Lapidary<->runit compatibility layer. 4) So you'll ask lots of questions and make lots of suggestions that will help me think things through. I already have all of Rubicon running (without modification) under the compatibility layer, so I think it is a viable possibility. It has caused me once again to marvel at and appreciate the beautiful, dynamic nature of Ruby :-) I'm very excited both about the merger and about having a framework in the standard distribution. What do ya'll think about it? Nathaniel <:((>< + - - | CharacterLink, Inc. | EQUIP VI
