I have to get my head wrapped around CORBA due to some current work, and I hoped to get an excuse for learning some more Ruby in the process. I've downloaded the Rinn package from sourceforge, however the test directory was missing the echo-client.c file, so I didn't get very far. I didn't find any other example code, so I haven't really tried this yet. Q1: I noticed the "ridl" compiler. Does this mean that we'll need to compile up the interfaces for both the client and the server? I haven't gotten as far in my CORBA book yet, but it does mention something about dynamic calls and reflection, which I interpret as being able to be pretty interface agnostic (from the server side) and asking what methods an object supports. This seems somewhat more in sync with the dynamic nature of Ruby than precompiled interfaces. (Then again, it might work that way, I don't really know yet ;-) Failing getting Rinn up, I grabbed ROMP, which seemed to be somewhat faster than dRuby. I got ROMP up and running cross my computers. However, it died quickly due to marshalling issues (Ruby version 1.6.4 on one machine, 1.6.5 on the other). So... Q2: Are there any distributed Ruby modules that are relatively marshalling agnostic? Or atleast that allows compatibility one way? (I haven't tried dRuby itself yet.) .... so much for learning useful CORBA stuff for work ;-) -- <[ Kent Dahl ]>================<[ http://www.stud.ntnu.no/~kentda/ ]> )____(stud.techn.;ind.k.data)||(softwareDeveloper.at(Trustix))_( /"Opinions expressed are mine and not those of my Employer, "\ ( "the University, my girlfriend, stray cats, banana fruitflies, " ) \"nor the frontal lobe of my left cerebral hemisphere.
