As someone said, this would be optional. Right now, I believe Ruby will warn you if you try to use the value of a variable that has never been seen before. This optional mode would complain if you try to _set_ a variable that has not been declared as really being a variable. In Ruby's default mode, it would not change the language _at all_. Much to my surprise, this has rarely been a problem for me in Ruby. Perhaps because I've been using unit tests a lot. Without those, I suspect I might mistype variables and not notice them.
