That's bad.

Hrm, something has gone tragically wrong then.  Without the version  
numbers RubyGems can't be guaranteed to work.  I recommend you  
rebuild ruby.

BTW, what does this say:

$ ruby -v -e 'p RUBY_VERSION'
ruby 1.8.5 (2006-12-04 patchlevel 2) [i686-darwin8.8.2]
"1.8.5"
