I'm unsure how >SDL compares here (to Squeak's BitBlt for example). Do you know? SDL provides a Blitting routine which would do what we want. It's also very portable and has been ported to many of the standard platforms (Win32, Linux, BeOS, MacOS, OSX). The only issue with it is that it's designed for writing games, and hence has some limitations, like having only one window per process (I think), not being able to resize the window (I think), etc. >I haven't played with Morphic. Could you give a short description of its >main benefits. (Or was it in earlier mails, I missed it?) Take a look at the main Squeak Swiki: http://minnow.cc.gatech.edu/squeak/30 From that page: "Morphic is primarily intended to be an interface for direct manipulation using scripting tiles for programming. However you can use it as well to build user interfaces with plain Smalltalk code. As Morphic is still work in progress the distinction in the tutorials is often somewhat blurred. Sometimes the code doen't work in a newer version (unfortuately)." Also: "Imagine a system as immediate and tactile as a sketch pad, in which you can effortlessly mingle writing, drawing, painting, and all the structured leverage of computer science." Hope that helps, Jimmy
