Subject: [ruby-talk:23105] Instance VARS and C objects

Hello,

	I'm developing some extensions for Ruby (OpenSSL binding - maybe
	you've noticed :-))
	
	I have quite hard decision now - and that is to allow INSTANCE
	VARIABLES (you know @var) or hide them behing virtual_parametes
	(var and var= methods).
	
	What irritates me is that before each operation you must pack
	IVs into C structure. This is, let's say, OK, but worse is that:

	user puts STRING to IV where I expect my object. Assigment is
	OK (I have no control over IVs - well I have in SimpleObjects, 
	but if the IV is Array, I loose control completely [I have control
	only over reference itself if I make my setter]). But later during
	packing IVs into Cstruct I report ERROR that I expected my object
	and not STRING
	
	This could be confusing for user, because assigment is OK.


	What do you think about?
