The point I'm trying to make is: Intimidation often is the biggest roadblock to clear when learning to program. Intimidation that comes from myths like "advanced math skills required"; "only the most cunning geniuses can learn to program"; "only old men with big beards can be good programmers"; "only males can learn to program"; "it takes ages and fortunes to even get started"; etc. For a programming novice, basic Ruby skills can be mastered with some good texts and practical tutorials. It's not like climbing Mount Everest. Although it's not "very difficult and expensive", having fun, dedication and inspiration helps a lot.
