From: Bob Gustafson Date: 2001-10-10T04:40:27+09:00 Subject: [ruby-talk:22339] Odd SyntaxError - using 1.7.1 Hi I am trying to use gemfinder-1.9.6 with the current cvs version of Ruby [user1@hoho0 user1]$ ruby -v ruby 1.7.1 (2001-10-05) [i686-linux-gnu] [user1@hoho0 user1]$ The fragment below shows a SyntaxError, but the code looks pretty good (in fact, right out of the 'book' (Programming Ruby)) /usr/local/lib/ruby/site_ruby/gem/methodfinder.rb:11:in `require': /usr/local/lib/ruby/site_ruby/gem/inject.rb:18: parse error (SyntaxError) each { |item| result = yield (result, item) } ^ from /usr/local/lib/ruby/site_ruby/gem/methodfinder.rb:11 from /usr/local/bin/gemfinder:10:in `require' from /usr/local/bin/gemfinder:10 I edited that line to use the 'do .. end' form of bracketing instead of the curly bracket style - but get the same SyntaxError [root@hoho0 gemfinder-1.9.6]# vim /usr/local/lib/ruby/site_ruby/gem/inject.rb [root@hoho0 gemfinder-1.9.6]# gemfinder runtests.rb /usr/local/lib/ruby/site_ruby/gem/methodfinder.rb:11:in `require': /usr/local/lib/ruby/site_ruby/gem/inject.rb:19: parse error (SyntaxError) result = yield (result, item) ^ /usr/local/lib/ruby/site_ruby/gem/inject.rb:26: parse error from /usr/local/lib/ruby/site_ruby/gem/methodfinder.rb:11 from /usr/local/bin/gemfinder:10:in `require' from /usr/local/bin/gemfinder:10 Note - In order to get this far, I had to edit the name of a 'require' file - just took the underscore out of the middle of the filename because the file being required does not have an underscore. listmodels.rb:require 'gem/when_missing' I realize that I may be pushing the status of either or both of gemfinder and ruby-1.7.1, but why not..
