Filter the feed from the newsgroup on the presence of the usual vulgar 
expressions and the absence of the word "ruby" or a Subject line fully in 
CAPS or punctuation. 

That will probably catch enough of the junk to keep me happy.

I feel that closing the list to allow registered members only would probably 
be undesirable at the moment.
