When I last noticed this issue of translating Perl books being discussed in
comp.lang.python (maybe a couple of months ago or so), the Perl book of
choice for doing a Python variant seemed to be "The Perl Cookbook". Because
this book is more task-oriented than feature-oriented, this is also my
first choice for a Perl to Ruby translation.

I have, but haven't read, the Perl OO book, which looked good enough to
purchase. It would probably also be useful to translate into Ruby.

Instead of "Learning Perl" (which is a good book), I prefer the much larger
"Programming Perl" book.

(Note that the Three Titans of Perl did not foolishly call their book
"Scripting Perl"; and in the process of dispelling myths about Perl, they
describe Perl as a "sophisticated, general purpose programming language
with a rich software development environment....")
