I've noticed that large number of graceful restarts cause the average
apache process size to grow by 300KB.  I don't know if this is mod_perl
or mod_ruby yet, but I'd venture to guess that's the culprit.  Try a 
stop then start and see what the process size is.  I've had good luck 
with mod_ruby staying under control if I avoid graceful restarts.
