All I did *before starting all this was 

$ rpm -qa | grep readline
readline-4.1-15mdk

Of course the HEADERS are NOT....
Sorry for all the time you've wasted.. but it's not ended :)

Now that the right headers are installed, I still get the problem.

This time the output is:

checking for tgetnum() in -lncurses... no
checking for tgetnum() in -ltermcap... no
checking for tgetnum() in -lcurses... no
checking for readline/readline.h... yes
checking for readline/history.h... yes
checking for readline() in -lreadline... no

what it mean ?
