[ruby-talk:21503] Trouble in native library...

  require 'native'  # ./native.so

  module RbTk
    class Window
      # blah
    end
  end

  Window.new()  # does something with a hashtable.

Hopelessly crashes with rb_intern("hash") returning 0xb81 in ruby's own
hash.c, as retrieved in line 1451 (this is ruby 1.7.1 CVS; ruby 1.6.5
fails in a similar way, ruby 1.6.4 doesn't; all Linux).

I have seen a series of other unexpected failures, depending on freak
changes in the Ruby sourcefile.

My guess is that some global table gets overwritten while it
shouldn't. So I'll try run purify on HP platform somewhere next week,
'coz I don't have it at home for Linux :( it doesn't exist for Linux, afaik.

Given the type of problem, HP may run just fine, providing no
information at all. If someone knows of a way of setting tight array
boundaries, protecting stacks and the whole load of fun for Linux, I'm
all ears.

PS: I've seen similar weird behaviour when using Tk, a few months ago,
1.7.1. I don't code that weird, I think :) For the good & stability of
Ruby, this kind of bug must be removed asap, but I know they're very
tough to find. Hope this helps.
