Most companies care, whether they should or not. All the recent Ruby want-ads here have stated location and either said they were looking for locals, or were willing to relocate them. Only 1 of them suggested they might be able to work from a distance, and even they said that they were looking for someone in their area so that occasional face-to-face gatherings would be easier. And I'm going to be honest... I work best in an office environment. At least, so far.
