File.open on windows needs to be explicitly told to be binary. Adding
the magic 'b' here got me going on win32:

  ##
  # Writes the PNG to +path+.

  def save(path)
    # Hooray, magic 'b' !
    File.open(path, "wb") do |f|
      ...
    end
  end
