The 'pick axe book' also known as 
"Programming Ruby: A Pragmatic Programmer's Guide"
by Dave Thomas, Andy Hunt
Addison-Wesley Pub Co; ISBN: 0201710897 

Currently it's the only English book about Ruby, although eg. O'Reilly and
SAMS are going to publish Ruby books, too.
