(600 Mhz Athlon/128M/60GB) Everything went fine as long as I used simple existing widget such as buttons, lists, trees etc. I am trying to write a small graphical program called "graph designer" which allows for creating graphs (datastructures not graphs of functions) interactively. In order to do this, I created a drawing area and a pixmap which buffers the content. I copy the relevant part of the pixmap onto the window on each expose event with count 0 (count should give the number of events to come). It works to some extent, but not particularly well: there is a strong flickering if I maximize the window. It seems that a lot of events are sent to the window, but most of them are superflous. The system gets also extremely slow. I hoped that checking the using the counter of the upcoming events would help, but it didn't. If I look at other X-Windows programs, they seems to perform much nicer. Does someone have an idea, how to handle this situtation? Is Ruby's slowliness the reason? Is KDE sending too many events? Anything else? -- signature file is under construction
