Subject: [ruby-talk:20686] Printing to local printer

I'm working on a program that needs to send output to a local attached 
printer. I haven't seen anything on how to do this in "the book" or FAQs, 
but this seems to work:

prntr = IO.popen("lpr", "a")
prntr.print "This is output."
prntr.close

I was wondering if this is the preferred Ruby way or if there was something 
smarter.
