what do these commands do for you

  harp:~ > ruby -r rubygems -e'  require "RMagick"; p Magick  '
  Magick

if that doesn't work try

  harp:~ > LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib ruby -r rubygems -e'  require "RMagick"; p Magick  '
  Magick
