Dear Ruby Community,

I thank you all for quick and insightful responses and the following
discussion. I think I learned a lot from it.
For me it is acceptable that there is no ++/-- operator but it should
be pointed out explicitly! I've read Thomas/Hunt's "Programming Ruby"
(which is in many ways a fine book BTW) and if I had stumbled across a
remark about the missing ++ it would have saved me a lot of time.
Maybe it's even worth an own error message? I dunno.
