I found the following useful

    include Curses

    DISPATCH = Hash.new(:beep)
    DISPATCH[?A]         = :abort       # abort
    DISPATCH[?h]         = :key_help    # show help
    # ...
    DISPATCH[?z]         = :undo        # undo previous move

for implementing a keystroke command dispatch table.
