I think I know the Ruby Way, but I don't identify it.
Anyway, you made good list.

But I'm not sure the followings are the Ruby Way:

|VIII) Use File.open rather than IO.open or just plain open.
|      (Applies to readlines and other methods in File as well).

|X)  Ask objects to convert themselves
