We had 161 teams participate in the competition, which is supposed to crown the "best programming language" (the top 3 places last year were to Haskell and Dylan entries). Registration to this year's contest opened yesterday, see here for the announcement on Lambda the Ultimate: http://lambda-the-ultimate.org/node/1600 The contest will be held the weekend of July 21-24: Teams will be given a task to complete in whatever language they choose. The winners will get bragging rights, and a subsidized trip to the ICFP conference in Portland this September. This year's theme will be "computational archaeolinguistics." I think this is a great opportunity for us to show off this community and the awesomeness of the Ruby language. I'd be willing to help organize a "Team Ruby" entry if there is enough interest. If you are interested in participating, let me know.
