Subject: Ruby won't update

I'm trying to update ruby from 1.8.2 to 1.8.4 on mac os x, but it just 
refuses to work. each time after I try, i run "ruby -v" and it's still 
1.8.2.

Has anyone else had difficulties? How can I get this to update??
