From: Ryan Tarpine Date: 2001-08-15T03:50:36+09:00 Subject: [ruby-talk:19718] General (GUI/license) questions First: Kero commented in the description of his new Ruby Agenda program "Ruby Agenda is written in Ruby with Tk bindings (which are in the default Ruby libraries; Tk is likely to be installed on any UNIX system)." This made me wonder; is it better to use Tk just because it is more common? I prefer the look of GTK, but (of course) the needs of the users should outweigh the opinions of the developer. Any comments on this? Second: I am a new developer to the whole free-software scene (as well as a new developer in general) and I am hoping to release the program I have been working on; it generates HTML from simple command files using LaTeX -like syntax (\toc \section[Title]{Text}). I originally wrote it to help with the development of my church's web site, but it has grown to the point where I consider it useful enough that others might benefit from it. Especially since commands (\xxx) are implemented as classes, it is easily extensible. Never releasing software before, I have no idea what licence to put it under. GPL? LGPL? BSD-style? I have no experience in these areas; I've never tried reading them through. What would be most beneficial to the Ruby community? -- Ryan Tarpine, rtarpine@hotmail.com "Technology is a queer thing.
