Subject: Array#replace vs assignment

Is there any difference between the following:

a = ['a','b','c','d','e']
z = ['x','y','z']
a.replace(z)

and

a = ['a','b','c','d','e']
z = ['x','y','z']
a = z

They seem to do the same thing.
