I just run the incoming messages through this little perl script
that is invoked via procmail.  So if you are using mutt
you more than likely can use procmail:

donsharp-u5:61> more ruby.pl
#!/usr/local/bin/perl

my @lines = <STDIN>;

grep { s/\[ruby-talk:[0-9]*\]// } @lines;

open( RUBY, ">> " . $ENV{ MAILDIR } . "/ruby-talk" );

print( RUBY @lines );

close( RUBY );

I know it's not ruby, but I wrote it before I even learned
thing one about ruby ;)
