OTH I can run the ruby.exe from "your" distribution in the cygwin-shell and then the thread is preemted as expected. The difference: this ruby.exe loads the cygwin-ruby16.dll. So it must be the code which is located in the cygwin-ruby16.dll which makes the difference! Does this help?
