That very much expresses my own view of things. There's also an interview about Simon P-J on newsforge as a Haskell reseacher for MS-research. > I keep trying to find reasons to hate .NET, and I succeed, but I'll be > damned if I also can't stop finding The dilemma is that MS has a lot of good people and a really crappy (creapy) marketing department. > So, I guess my actual point is that interoperability between languages > is a VERY VERY important > thing for the next generation of development (say the next 10 years or > so). Microsoft has realized that the future isn't the operating system. It isn't even the net. It is the ability to communicate and create solutions that commucate that really counts. Tomorrow MS wouldn't even care if their software is running Sun or Linux (just wait and see). It will only save them money so they don't have to maintain an OS. Right now they do make money out of OS - but it will not last - and they know it. Personally I don't care whether MS makes money or not - save for the risc of global world domination - and I'd happily use their technology if it works. I just don't want to be forced to always have to use MS products because noone else can get their act together. In example I would any choose Ruby over VB, but I would end up using VB because VB intergrates with a zillion other features I need. So by Ruby rejecting MS by principle (I'm not saying this is the case), the reality is that I end up not using Ruby (for anything but scripting file transfers). Mikkel
