Subject: [ruby-talk:18557] Need help installing sablot extension

I'm having a tough time getting the Ruby sablot extension installed on
a Redhat 7 box.  I clearly do not understand 'mkmf' !

I don't have root, so I've installed ruby 1.6.4, expat 1.95.1, and
sablotron 0.60 using prefix=$HOME

I managed to get these installed, with expat and sablotron libs  going under 
$HOME/lib, but I cannot get past extconf.rb for the sablot extension.

I can get it to find sablot.h using
 --with-sablot-include=/home/james/Sablot-0.60/Sablot/engine

but still get this output:

checking for sablot.h... yes
checking for XmlParseXmlDecl() in -lxmltok... no
checking for XmlParseXmlDecl() in -lexpat... no

What do I need to do to get extconf.rb to find my xmltok and expat libs?
I've tried the passing extconf the following, with no luck:
 
 --with-xmltok-lib=/home/james/Sablot-0.60/lib/xmltok.o 
 --with-expat-include=/home/james/expat-1.95.1/lib 
 --with-expat-dir=/home/james/expat-1.95.1/lib 
 --with-expat-lib=/home/james/lib/libexpat.so
