I think it goes without saying that any reasonbly powerful and flexible
language allows you to shoot yourself in the foot in all sorts of ways,
if you try hard enough.  As a matter of fact, IIRC C++ allows you to
achieve the same result you demonstrated, by overloading the global '+'
operator for arguments of type int.

As always, staying sane in any programming language depends in the end
on abiding by the golden rule: do unto other hackers as you would have
them do unto you.  No language can completely protect you from yourself;
and the ones that don't even try (unless you ask them to) are typically
the most useful.
