With those few lines I can reproduce the problem, it's not what I want to
use in a real application. But with FXRuby you cannot use multithreading and
FXApp#addInput (which adds files to select) isn't working right now. To get
around this I'm using idle time processing and that's why I want to do a
recv without blocking.

Perhaps I should have given this background info in my first post, sorry.
