Indeed, you are correct, sir.  Sorry about that.  MPI stands for Message
Passing Interface and is a specification for a parallel communication and
processing library.  There are a number of implementations of this
interface and the Open Directory's page on MPI is a good place to start
looking, if you're interested:

MPI is probably most interesting because it is used by a lot of people to
program big clusters of computers (e.g. Beowulfs, etc.).
