Side note: As in _dynamis_, "power" roughly pronounced _dunamis_, whence we get "dynamic," "dynamite", etc. German still preserves this; the upsilon (y) is pronounced like a u with an umlaut. From Greek mythology. Overweening pride, as in the kind that goes before a fall. Actually, I *think* Hybris may have been a person originally, a person punished by the gods for his pride or presumption. Here used half-facetiously. Wasn't it Larry Wall who started this usage? I think his mantra is "laziness, impatience, and hubris" -- the three great qualities of a programmer. In this sense, might possibly be synonymous with nerve, brass, guts, cojones, gumption, etc., depending on who you talk to and how they interpret these infinitesimal gradations of meaning. $0.03, Hal
