Would anyone be interested in a FreeBSD pkg of this? knu, could you commit a port if I submit a PR for the pkg? -sc > What is ruby-tmpl-0.1? Taken from: http://ruby-tmpl.sourceforge.net/faq.html#what_is_ruby-tmpl What is ruby-tmpl? ruby-tmpl is a templating system designed to work under mod_ruby. =20 ruby-tmpl provides web developers with an abstraction layer that separates presentation (templates) and content (ruby scripts). Unlike AxKit which is XML/XSL oriented and very powerful (AxKit gets my full endorsement, is very awesome, and well worth a hard look!), sometimes it is too much for the problem at hand. Try this on for size: =20 if static HTML is a $0.99 squirt gun from 7-eleven that barely gets your friend wet and AxKit is a tidal wave similar to the one shown in the deleted scenes of the movie the Abyss, then ruby-tmpl is a fire hose. =20 It's big enough to keep a building from burning down, small enough to not wipe out the state of California, yet still capable of doing plenty of work/damage. What features does ruby-tmpl have? Here is a list of current features in ruby-tmpl (see FEATURES for the=20 most up to date information): * XML compliant template tag syntax * Variable substitution (recursive) * Default values for variable substitution * File includes (recursive) * Custom error messages for problems with file includes * Path context changes (relative to template root or to the live docume= nt root) * Output content munging (removes white space) What features does ruby-tmpl want to have? Here is a list of desired/planned features in ruby-tmpl (see TODO file=20 for the most up to date information): * support for non-empty template tags * support for template conditionals (if, unless, etc) * support for template loops (pass in an array or hash as a value) * support for an eval-like template command for evaluating ruby code (w= ant to implement an empty tag and non-empty tag version) * support for a global configuration file for security and ISP deployme= nts * support for direct database access from tmpl files * support for non-recursive includes (may not be possible) * support for a tmpl request handler so that a script isn't needed for = ruby-tmpl to parse a tmpl file * Output content rewriting for URI based sessions. Please feel free to send feature requests, comments, and even bugs and=20 to the ruby-tmpl-devel list.
