One common reason for pushing such changes is that it makes it look like another language and will therefore bring in hordes of converts; as if anyone with a brain would change programming paradigms merely because the language looked superficially like what they already know. A second common reason is that apparently many users of Ruby feel every click of the keyboard as excruciating pain, and would therefore prefer any change that would save them a keystroke or two. Personally, I am a minimalist; And would like to propose a five year moratorium on changes to Ruby. Please, let me learn all of the current features with all of their combinations, permutations and consequences, before "enhancing" the language out from under me.
