I have thought wxWindows is a class framework on top of GTK (under
UNIX) and Windows API (under Win9x/NT). But not general on other
toolkits, IMHO.

In comp.lang.python there was a discussion for right this. There was
also a project that try to work out such a generic beast. I do not
know what the current state is, however.
