Java split() => Ruby String.split:

"hello world".split( " ")

returns [ "hello", "world" ].

Java trim() => Ruby String.strip:

"    hello world          ".strip

returns "hello world".

Java indexOf() => Ruby String.index

"hello world".index( "w")

returns 6.
