I think most of the Rails tutorials online are out-of-date with the latest releases (13.1, 14.2). I'd recommend the Agile Development with Rails book. While not completely up with the latest releases either, it's a great book and almost everything works. By the time you get to the examples that don't work properly, you'll know enough about the API to figure things out properly for yourself. One of the biggest problems with Rails right now is the documentation. When you're learning this beast, don't always trust the RDocs, books, or tutorials. Development is moving so fast with Rails that the documentation rarely keeps up. That said, don't give up. Once you get into the Rails and Ruby mindset it's a beautiful environment.
