Subject: Gem server performance

FYI, users were reporting timeouts on the gem server at RubyForge
today.  Rich Kilmer hacked the gem server on RubyForge to
substantially reduce the size of the index.  Response times are still
slow but are much improved over what we were seeing earlier today.

We're working on various other enhancements that should offer a more
dramatic improvement in performance.  Stay tuned.
