They compliment each other. ragi is an interface to the Asterisk AGI, which
is a way to use ruby in your dialplan logic. The Asterisk manager interface
is used to control asterisk via a socket interface. With the AMI you can
originate calls, receive information about events in asterisk, check
voicemail status, transfer calls, hangup calls, reload asterisk, etc, etc..=
.

For example at work I have a rails web page where I can view my home phone
line, see who is calling, if anyone left voicemail, etc..
