weird - it looks like a case sensitivity issue, because this works:

Dir["C:/Program?Files/*"]

but this doesn't

Dir["C:/PROGRAM?FILES/*"]

and this does for c:/foo

Dir["C:/FOo/*"]

It looks like the metacharacters other than a final /* will not work if the
path is not case sensitive.

From what I've seen, I think your program should work as written if you can
get it to return case sensitive paths.
