I admit I didn't read their type inferrance papers; but I did read their dynamic de-optimization papers back when I worked on a java virtual machine (that has to worry about things like this because at JIT-compile time you don't know if a class loader might extend a class you're optimizing some time in the future). The 'self' guys published some very cool stuff.
