Subject: [ruby-talk:15582] how to get UTF representation of a string?

hi,

I want to habe the UTF code of a String, "悌fel" for example. The first 
char in the string is an german umlaut, 'A+e'.

I've read String.unpack without understanding it.

when testing:
s = "悌fel"
u = s.unpack('U')
puts u.type
puts
0.upto (u.length-1) {
  |i|
  puts "#{i}: #{u[i]} (#{i.type})"
}

it prints one element (304, Fixnum)

when using 'UU' or 'U1' it prints only one element, too.
but I want it to result in an Array with 5 elements...

any ideas?
