Anyways, assuming you want to make win32ole calls in a ruby script running on *nix inside a wine install (whew!)...I have had success with the following setup (that should be relavent to your question): 1) I installed wine (via codeweavers installer) 2) I installed ruby windows one-click installer into the wine environment 3) I installed windows office 4) I was able to make win32ole calls in ruby (the wine one) I haven't tried controlling excel via win32ole calls in this environment, but I have done very similiar things that lead me to believe that you can.
