What has changed that would now need patching? It used to work (at least a 
few months ago). Perhaps these problems are due to differences in AIX 
versions, in which case you will  want to conditionalize configure changes 
for older AIX versions so as not to inadvertently regress things for 
current ones.. When the AIX-related stuff was fixed up some 1.5 years ago 
or so, it was mainly done for AIX 4.3 (i.e. without access to earlier 4.2. 
and 4.1 or 3.2.5 systems). If there is a copy of the older configure stuff 
around, it might provide a useful starting point for others to work from.
